Subject: [gnukhata-devel] Roadmap ahead and immediate goals
Dear all,
We had a team meeting last week end (5 FEB 2016 ).
Now that ICFOSS has resumed funding GNUKhata after a lul, we can take
things ahead in a much faster way.
Digital Freedom Foundation <dff.org.in> and GNUKhata team <gnukahta.in>
profoundly thanks ICFOSS for being our major supporter and funder.
We had already discussed our progress on the RESTful API which we had
started to develop in early December 2015.
We have now decided to finish the Proposed revamp of the XMLRPS based
service into REST, so that we can not only take advantage of the
performance gain by using Light weight JSON packets but also streamline
the core API for the bigger challenges ahead such as Inventory module
and added features such as voucher attachments (which is unique to
GNUKhata ).
The REST API is expected to finish by March 31st.
In addition the team has decided to start writing the front end logic
using Angular JS for making the web application dynamic and the
designing of the screen has already started using bootstrap so that the
interfaces look and behave consistently even on a Tablet or a Mobile phone.
These decisions had been made in November 2015 and some work had already
progressed, although shortage of resources prevented us from going faster.
We have decided that a few APIs such as creating and selecting
Organization and adding account will be done in the next 10 days SO by
Feb 18th we must be ready with the same.
Then we will do the conectivity work with Angular and connect the
existing screens which have been mostly designed by the students at
Lonere (BATU).
Then we intend to train the students to work on this through a 2 day
focused hands-on seminar.
After this the tasks will be decided and a lotted.
Somewhere in early march we will also have a sprint.
So basically around first week of April we will surely have a system
ready with Accounting module and Basic Inventory all done in REST and
the CRUD based API connected with basic web interfaces.
We will soon allot the issues on gitlab and the mailing list will be
updated accordingly.
We will have a time period of 9 months to have a completely matured,
production ready GNUKhata version 3 with Inventory and advanced book
keeping with a web interface which can also be used as a desktop
interface on a stand alone basis.
Meanwhile the deskapp will continue to be the current production ready
accounting solution.
Happy hacking.
Krishnakant.
